Feeling the Finish Line
Today, I am noticing quite a bit of resistance as I continue on my journey to serve my clients with excellence. I have reached a level of success in my business and in my health program. The structures have been built and it is now time to do it over and over to attain mastery. I find it so interesting how both these areas of my life are in need of the same thing right now. Not to fiddle or recreate, but to be still and repeat.
You know how when you're on a journey, and you're almost at the end? All you have to do is keep putting one foot in front of the other and you will reach the goal. Then you notice an innocent little path over there. You think, “hmm...I wonder what’s over there.” Or, “Oh my goodness, look at that shiny penny! Let me rush over there, away from the path, to pick it up.” Or, “Wow, I've lost X amount of pounds. Now, all I want is a pizza.” We want something to fill the void of tension that has been removed when things are moving smoothly toward the finish line, and all you have to do is put one foot in front of the other.
We are so close to the finish line, yet we start looking for distractions. It's almost like we can feel the success, or we can feel the moving into a new level of mastery. Then, some part of us says, “Nope, I prefer to stay here in my comfort zone. So let me go ahead and distract myself with seemingly important things that will prolong the journey.”
So, I just want to go a bit deeper with this for a second. Today, I choose to stop and really look at this before I go off on a “shiny object” path. I am aware that, as I move closer and closer to my goals, in many ways, I feel more vulnerable. I start to hunger for other things that I desire instead of seeing the one thing that is working through to the end. That calls for being still and feeling the desire without rushing to fix or feed it. Could it be this very hunger that can carry me to my goals and desires if I learn to just watch and wait for it to move through me? No need to fix it or create something new to feed it. What if I could just BE with it and put one foot in front of the other?
In the case of my health program, I have put a big roadblock on the “path” with food as a distraction. So, now I am on the lookout for different ways of feeding my soul. One of my favorite tools is meditation. I am practicing getting still and breathing in the picture of healthy Monique jumping for joy. It always makes me laugh. Then, I bounce on my trampoline which makes me laugh even more.
As far as my business is concerned, the practice is to put my head down, set the timer and keep working on the things that I am mastering right now. I get still in order to resist the urge to look over and see what someone else is doing, or wanting to create something new.
So today, I invite you to take a look at what “shiny objects” are pulling you off your path. What distractions are coming up for you as you get closer and closer to your goal? When you find yourself in these moments, I invite you to reach out to the people who inspire you. Connect to the people who are in your life holding the vision of you crossing the finish line.
I'm so grateful for each one of you in my life. And I'll be the one holding the big sign that says, “I knew you could do it!” when you cross the finish line.
