Unbreakable Connection

Last week was Mother's Day, and I want to bless and honor all the mothers in our world.

The unbreakable connection between mother and child

Our mother is our first connection to life. While we are in the womb, our mother is literally our lifeline. It seems that as soon as we learn to walk we start to grow away from that lifeline. We are brave because we know it is always there to run back to when things get scary. Our instinct tells us that we must learn how to be in the world without the physical lifeline but we are rarely taught that there is an invisible lifeline that can never be broken but needs to be strengthened and defined.

I remember one of my spiritual teachers, Edwene Gaines taught me a valuable lesson about this. She would gather all of her power and remind us that we were sons & daughters of God. Then she would say, "And what do kittens become when they grow up? Cats. And what do puppies become when they grow up? Dogs. And what do we become when we grow up....Gods!" It was a very powerful message and it really took me a long time to not feel blasphemous just thinking about it. But then she would say, "By the way, God doesn't have any grandchildren." I couldn't figure it out. What exactly did that mean?

It is one of the commandments: Honor thy Mother and Father. Both of my parents are gone now and May is often a challenging month because it has Mother's Day and the anniversary of my mother's death within days of each other. I often ask myself how to honor parents who have died. We talk about honoring their memory and I have rituals and traditions in place to remember them. Yet, there is a yearning to feel that physical connection again to truly honor them. Then I remember that invisible lifeline that can NEVER be broken. I search for it within myself and it is always there. Sometimes more faint than other times, but always there.

As I sit at my computer and write, I realize that I have another 10 hours in front of it again today. It has become normal to sit in front of this "box" and form connections and relationships. I am so grateful to reach so many people and I realize the magnitude of such a device. Yet, today I have become aware that I have very little sense of connection away from the "box.”

I am walking around with a sense of disconnect that has become normal and I can't help but notice most of my friends and loved ones are experiencing it too. I don't know for sure but can't help but wonder if we haven't lost touch with that invisible lifeline that is NEVER broken. No, it is NEVER broken but we can disconnect from it ourselves because we are trying to be brave and have learned so many ways to grow away from it.

Today, I invite you to tune back into your Divine Nature. Search for that invisible lifeline to things that nourish your soul that have nothing to do with the "box.” I think what my teacher Edwene was telling us is that we have a direct connection to the greatest power in the world, and we must plug back into it; strengthen and define it. Bring yourself back to Mother Nature and tune yourself to the trees, the earth, the sea...whatever reconnects you to that invisible lifeline within that is NEVER broken.

I am doing that right now as I bless each of you.

I am doing that right now as I send love that can never die to my own, sweet...Mommy.

Quote of the Day:

Though free to think and act, we are held together, like the stars in the firmament, with ties inseparable. These ties cannot be seen, but we can feel them.
— Nikola Tesla

Affirmation of the Day:

I know that the circle is open but never broken. Merry meet. Merry part. Merry meet again.
